Homecoming weekend events appear to have been very successful. We had a great turn-out for the School of Nursing’s 65th Anniversary Celebration Luncheon. I’m told that there were around 250 attendees on Thursday, October 11th.  Many alums stopped by the Archives’ exhibit table to reminisce with friends and to help identify photographs.  I even had two nursing alums from the class of 1983 stop in the Archives on Friday to continue looking through materials.  Both were very gracious and were a great help with identifying numerous classmates within our photos. I am pleased with the connections I was able to make at the luncheon and it was rewarding to be able to serve as the catalyst for sparking so many wonderful memories.

The exhibit and memory table would not have been possible without the help of Joan Hilger-Mullen, Curator for the Donald Kirk Piper MD Memorial Medical Museum at St. Joseph Hospital here in Kansas City, from School of Nursing Office Manager, Debra Bortnicker, and from our Public Relations Specialist, Bob Luder.  A special thanks to you all!

I am in the process of gathering materials together to create a table-top exhibit for our Department of Nursing’s 65th Anniversary Celebration. In my quest to locate interesting historical materials, I have sifted through the current holdings of the Archives and I have very graciously been granted access to collections held by both our Department of Nursing and St. Joseph Hospital. This early brochure is but one of the treasures that I have come across in my search. The Alumni Luncheon will be held (in conjunction with the Homecoming Weekend Event) at the Overland Park Convention Center on October 10th, so I have less than a month to pull together something grand. It should be a fun event and I am very much looking forward to meeting some of our nursing alums!
